La Sojourn nestles in its own private gardens and offers a lovely self contained gitet with its own access via an outside staircase with lovely views over the surrounding countryside and the river Garonne. The Canal du Midi is within easy walking distance and the whole area offers lovely walking and cycling opportunities with abundant wildlife. Although rural, the gite is on the edge of the village of Barie and 3km from Castets en Dorthe with its local shops, a bar, pizza place and the restaurant L'Ecluse 52 for fine dining. It is where the Canal meets the Garonne at its most westerly point. The larger towns of La Reole and Langon are within easy driving distance (approx. 10 km) where you will find larger shops and markets for all your needs.
The gite comprises a large airy sitting/dining room with kitchenette with full cooking facilities, a double bedroom and separate bathroom with shower over the bath, loo and basin. The sitting room has a TV (UK freesat), DVD and CD player and a selection of films and music and double doors lead on to the balcony. Steps take you down to the terrace below which has a BBQ (for your sole use) with table and chairs for alfresco dining. There is table tennis in the adjoining barn. Wifi is available in the sitting room. Baby equipment is available on request at no extra cost.
It is a wonderful area in which to relax and unwind and there is a lot to do and see locally. Golf and tennis are within a short drive, canoeing on the Ciron or spend the day at Arcachon where you will find lots of water sports and, of course, the famous Pyla Dunes. Slightly further afield are the lovely sandy beaches on the Cote d’Argent and nearer to hand there are lakes with beaches for swimming and more water sports.
The stunning city of Bordeaux is 45 minutes away and other places to visit include St. Emillion, Duras, the Bastide towns of the Entre de Mers region and the numerous chateaux and vineyards the area has to offer. Some of the more local villages are charming, for example mediaeval St Macaire with its cobbled streets, ancient priory and its cafes and restaurants.
