Barie, near the towns of
La Reole and
Langon in the
Aquitaine region (South West) of
France.
La Sojourn is approx 50 km southeast of
Bordeaux, with its modern international airport in department 33, the Gironde. The guest house stands in its own private grounds on the banks of the Gironde and benefits from a lovely 10m x 5m
swimming pool perfect for cooling off in on those long hot
summer days.

Location
Barie is a small peaceful hamlet surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is ideal for both cycling, walking and exploring the Gironde area, seeing the wildlife, deer, red squirrels, lizzards and many different birds. The house is 3 km from Castets en Dorthe where you will find a boulangerie, butcher, small supermarket with meat counter, post office, bar, doctor’s surgery and dispensary and there is an outdoor bar/restaurant sitting on the banks of the Canal du Midi for a relaxing drink, lunch or dinner.
The larger supermarkets are to be found in both La Reole and Langon. La Reole has an aircraft museum, France’s oldest town hall, constructed for Richard the Lionhart in the 12th century and an old monastery. At the front of the Abbaye des Benedictins there are great views of the Dropt valley, well worth exploring. Langon is a thriving centre, although modernised it still retains some pretty lanes to wander down with interesting shops, bicycle hire, restaurants and cafes to enjoy, the large Friday market is well worth visiting.
Caudrot has a small supermarket and in the little square there is often a game of boule to watch. On the way to St Macaire with its lovely old narrow streets, its medieval church, the Église-Prieuré and restaurants there are some pretty walks along the Garonne.
The house is approx. 9 hours drive from Calais either by boat, P&O, Sea France Ferries or Euro Tunnel (just 35 minutes to France). Alternatively, Bordeaux Airport (Merignac) is approx. 40 minutes drive from the house if you prefer fly/drive. Flights from Gatwick (BA), Luton (Easyjet), Southampton (Flybe). Bergerac Airport is approx. 1hr 30 mins where you can get bargain fares from Stanstead, Liverpool and East Midlands with Ryanair. Also Flybe from Exeter, Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham. The TGV to Bordeaux from Paris is just 3 hours, with Lille 5 hours. Portsmouth - St. Malo, Brittany Ferries overnight crossing.
